Spectroscopic imaging techniques are useful to investigate the spatially inhomogeneous optical and electronic characteristics in two-dimensional (2D) layered structures. For example, Raman and photoluminescence mapping measurements over a large area of 2D surface can provide quantitative information on spatially-resolved layer thicknesses, strain, defects, and charge distributions. In this talk, Raman and photoluminescence studies of optical phonons, excitons, and trions will be presented to understand the energy landscape of 2D materials. Particularly, diverse advantages and strategies of the Raman scattering technique will be highlighted.
