Axion is one of the prime candidates for dark matter of our universe. Worldwide a great effort is currently being made to search for axion dark matter. In this colloquium, I will explain what is axion and why we need it. If axion exists, it will be extremely light and feebly interacting to be abundant in our universe. I will then explain a new proposal to detect the cosmic axions in the laboratory. Finally I will discuss a new astrophysical signature of axion dark matter.
