Nonlinear optical probes of atomically thin polar phases

초 록
Photon-based spectroscopic techniques have long been developed and served as a powerful tool in understanding electric and magnetic properties of condensed matters. In particular, nonlinear optical spectroscopy, such as optical second harmonic generation technique has been widely used to investigate not only the crystal structural symmetry but also electric and magnetic properties of condensed matters. In this presentation, I will present two topics of polar phases formed in (i) hetero-interface in transition metal oxide thin films of SrRuO3, and (ii) atomically thin flakes of van der Waals materials of NiI2.
