Graphene is an ideal flatform to investigate characteristic many-body interactions that emerge in a two-dimensional system. The interaction between a magnetic impurity and charge carriers in graphene results in the formation of a hybridized many-body ground state, so-called Kondo resonance, below the characteristic Kondo temperature. Here I discuss the Kondo effect that appears in the electron band structure of graphene using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Charge carriers in graphene in the presence of a local magnetic moment introduced by a magnetic impurity or a substrate, exhibit a magnetic coupling, evidenced by the Kondo resonance that is tuned by temperature. In addition, the chemical inertness of graphene allows us to examine the theoretical prediction of the dependence of the Kondo effect on the density of states. These findings suggest a viable route towards the realization of strongly correlated electron phases in a two-dimensional sea of Dirac fermions.
