The appearance of 'topological flat bands' in materials such as Kagome metals or transitional-metal dichalcogenides, magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene etc, are emerging as a fascinating new playground for correlated electron physics. In lattice systems, flat-bands can arise in special 'frustrated' lattices eg, pyrochlore or kagome lattices, when a very large spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is introduced. In the present talk I will give a brief idea about flatband systems which can generate a plethora of novel quantum phases and unusual low-energy excitations.
